Tossa de Mar boasts some of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa Brava, offering something for every type of beach lover. The main beach, Playa Gran, stretches out beneath the iconic medieval walls and offers soft sands, clear waters, and views of the historic castle. Playa Gran is 380 metres long and 60 metres wide and there are bars on the beach where you can sit and enjoy the scenery.

Just a short walk away from Playa Gran and right in front of Hotel Gran Reymar, you’ll find smaller coves like Mar Menuda. This beach is perfect for snorkeling, diving, and exploring underwater life. There are many scuba divers every day and also at night - when you can watch the divers and their lights bobbing around under the water. For a more secluded feel, venture to Cala Giverola or Cala Pola, nestled among rocky cliffs with turquoise waters ideal for a quiet swim.

The iconic view that most people know in Tossa de Mar is the walled fortress at the end of Playa Gran. It is called Villa Vella Enceinte and its present appearance dates back to the end of the 14th Century. It still has the entire original perimeter with battlemented stone walls, four turrets and three cylindrical parapets.

One of our favourite things to do in Tossa De Mar was wander the labrynth of cobblestone streets of the walled fortress city. It is full of restaurants, artisan shops and plenty of pretty plazas to enjoy the views. At the highest point you can visit the lighthouse and museum and it is where our favourite cafe/bar in Tossa was. The cafe sits on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the unspoilt cliffs that rise straight up out of the crystal blue water.

As well as the walled medieval village, Tossa De Mar has a small, but impressive old town area. There are a lot of restaurants and bars along the seafront, but the streets just off the beach are full of lovely old buildings, mixed with more modern styles. There are many great and well-priced restaurants and we certainly enjoyed the varied shopping the Tossa De Mar had to offer. It is a busy beachfront area with lots happening and is perfect place to wander along the promenade, find a spot for a cool drink and watch the world go by.

Hotel Gran Reymar was the perfect spot to enjoy our 8 nights in Tossa De Mar. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need for an enjoyable stay. Try and book a room with a balcony and view of the pool and sea area. From the balcony you can watch the scuba divers throughout the day - but also at night. The pool and other facilities were fabulous and the buffet breakfast one of the best we have enjoyed. The hotel is situated in a quiet area on the beach at Tossa de Mar, but is an easy walk into the main part of town and the walled village. We would highly recommend staying here, and we won’t consider anywhere else for our next visit.

Tossa de Mar was a joy to visit and spend eight days. We had plenty of time to explore, try different restaurants, swim in the Mediterranean and the hotel pool and jacuzzi. We loved the laid back vibe and gorgeous views that Tossa de Mar has and we can’t wait to visit again.
