Do you know how to Strava?

Want to join a cool club? Are you on Strava? Do you even know what it is?  Well if you like to walk, run or ride then Strava is a great app to have on your phone. Think of it as the Facebook or Instagram of your activities.

It is technically a “Fitness App”, and a lot of athletes use it to track their training progress with times, distances etc.  I prefer to use it for the following reasons;

  1. I like to keep a record of how far I go.  Sometimes I only do a couple of kilometres, but it all adds up.

  2. I also like to see where I have walked.  This is really cool when you are away from home.

  3. I can see what my friends and family are up to with their activities.

  4. You can add photos and descriptions – which again is really cool when you are away from home.  Even if you do the same track most days – as I do – you can always find a new angle to take a photo and add to your activity.

  5. The Strava app is very easy to use.

  6. Strava keeps an accumulative tally of how far you have gone in one week, one month and from you started. Apparently I’ve walked over 1,700km.  No wonder I’m exhausted.

  7. There are so many other features you can use – but I like to keep it simple.

You can see all your Strava details either on mobile or desktop.

The Cool Club – Beach Travel Wine

I’ve started a “club” on Strava called Beach Travel Wine.  A lot of bike clubs, and triathlon clubs use this feature for their members.

This club (Beach Travel Wine) is for anyone who would like to share their activity in a supportive, fun group.  I’ll keep you up to date with all my activities and share some awesome places to explore as well.  It’s free to join and should be lots of fun.

For those who would like to take part – I’m going to start a 100km challenge – that is to encourage all participants to walk 100km in one month – that’s only 25km a week.  It’s not a competition, it’s just for fun.

There are a couple of things to remember when using Strava

The Strava logo.

  1. The app doesn’t work very well if you have battery saving mode on your phone.

  2. You will obviously need mobile data on your phone.

  3. You can pause the activity if you stop to have coffee, etc along the way – which I use more often than you would think.

  4. You can add photos and details after you have finished recording your activity.

  5. Don’t forget to stop the app when you finish – (I have done this a few times and it does muck up your records a little bit)

  6. It’s addictive – you will find yourself Strava-ing everywhere you go.

So, what are you waiting for – download Strava and come and share your activities.  Invite your family and friends to join us too.

Once you have downloaded the app and put in your details, click on the hamburger lines (the 3 lines) in the top left corner, click on clubs, search for Beach Travel Wine and join the club.

I can’t wait to see where you are all walking!
